Start Here
Practical writing, field guides, workshops and talks on how good ideas land: in someone else’s mind, in a career and in the world. Start here.
Most of what’s here is about making room for potential.
Cultivated exists to help discover and develop the potential in people, ideas and work. There’s more in people than we usually make room for, and it seems a shame to waste it. The answer isn’t to demand more of people. It’s to create the conditions for more to become possible.
I’m Rob. I write, teach, speak and make films from Winchester, and Cultivated Notes is where it all lives. Underneath it is Idea to Value, a practical way of seeing how an idea becomes something valuable, and what helps or gets in the way.
Some of the work is for the curious reader. Some is for people developing their craft, career or ideas. And some is for teams and organisations who want their good ideas to land, and the work of getting them there to be worth doing.
Have a look around. The paths below are a good place to start.

Why this matters
Most of us have more potential, and more ideas, than we ever get round to using. And the time, energy and attention it takes to bring them to life are limited. Unlike money, you can’t make more of them.
So it’s worth spending them well: on ideas that can become something, in conditions that give them a fair chance. The Japanese word mottainai captures it: respect for value that hasn’t been realised yet, including your own effort.
Making room for potential is how we honour it.
About Rob
I'm Rob Lambert. Journalist, filmmaker, VP of Technology, VP of HR, and now writer and teacher. I've helped take a startup to exit, run portfolio work across more than a thousand initiatives and taught more than 250 workshops.
You don't need to follow a path. Read something, try something, and if it turns out to be useful, that's the whole idea.

Value beyond profit
Five percent of profit from the books, workshops and membership is given each year to Naomi House — the hospice caring for life-limited children and their families. Because every system should create value beyond profit.
