Most of what's here is about how good ideas land. In a meeting, a talk, a career or a business.
Cultivated is an independent publisher, advisory and teaching practice by Rob Lambert, exploring people, ideas, creativity and the work that makes life interesting.
Through writing, books, films, photography, talks and workshops, I explore the things worth noticing, the ideas worth developing, and what happens when we bring them into the world.
Some of that work is for the curious reader. Some is for people developing their craft, career or ideas. Some helps organisations communicate better, do better work and turn good ideas into something valuable.
It's one long interest in the same thing: how something that exists as an idea becomes something valuable in the world, how meaning travels between people, what helps or hinders that journey, and whether being part of it is worth it.
Come and have a look around.

Why this matters
Most of us have more ideas than we ever do anything with. And the time, energy and attention it takes to bring them to life are limited. Unlike money, you can’t make more of them.
So it’s worth spending them on ideas that become something. The Japanese word mottainai captures it: respect for value that hasn’t been realised yet, including your own effort.
About Rob
I'm Rob Lambert. Journalist, filmmaker, VP of Technology, VP of HR, and now writer and teacher. I've helped take a startup to exit, run portfolio work across more than a thousand initiatives and taught more than 250 workshops.
You don't need to follow a path. Read something, try something, and if it turns out to be useful, that's the whole idea.

Value beyond profit
Five percent of profit from the books, workshops and membership is given each year to Naomi House — the hospice caring for life-limited children and their families. Because every system should create value beyond profit.
