Where it usually starts
Most people find me at a moment like one of these. The situation is different every time. The opportunity for potential is usually bigger than it looks.
What we explore
- Possibility and ambition. What you could become, and what's worth aiming for.
- Ideas and opportunities. Which ones are worth developing, and what to do with them.
- People and creativity. The talent you already have, and how to make more of it.
- Stories and communication. Helping people see the picture, and themselves in it.
- Organisational conditions. The climate, habits and structures that let good work happen.
- Making things happen. Turning intent into progress people can see.
How it works
Whatever the work, it follows the same three moves.
01
Imagine what's possible.
A picture of the future people can see themselves in, and want to help bring to life.
02
Understand where you are.
An honest view of what's really happening, not what the org chart or the status report says.
03
Work out how to get there.
The route, and the making: experiments, communication, capability and better conditions.
Where I look when it gets hard. Underneath sits Idea to Value, the approach behind all of my work. When things stall, or nobody is sure where they stand, it gives us five places to look: direction, flow, communication, climate and learning. You don't need to know it to benefit from it.
Three kinds of work
01 / Imagine
See what could be better.
Help people and organisations look beyond the immediate demands of today, recognise untapped potential and imagine a future worth working towards.
What happens
- Finding where the biggest opportunities are.
- Understanding what's happening now and challenging assumptions.
- Developing a compelling picture of a better future.
- Creating direction, purpose and shared understanding.
Formats: possibility sessions, discovery projects, facilitated conversations and strategic direction work.
02 / Develop
Become better at what you do.
Help people, teams and organisations develop the capabilities and conditions to do better work, work better together and make more of their potential.
What happens
- Developing leadership, communication and collaboration.
- Improving creativity, problem-solving and decision-making.
- Building skills, behaviours and organisational capability.
- Creating better working environments and conditions.
Formats: workshops, coaching, learning experiences, and development programmes built around your people.
03 / Make
Turn potential into value.
Help people put their ideas, capabilities and collective effort to work, creating worthwhile outcomes and making progress towards the future they've imagined.
What happens
- Improving how ideas move into action.
- Making better use of people's time, energy and attention.
- Building momentum and overcoming obstacles.
- Helping people learn, adapt and improve along the way.
Formats: Idea to Value engagements, focused projects, workshops, and working alongside you.
Who you'd be working with
I'm Rob Lambert. All of my career has been spent imagining a brighter picture of the future, and helping people get there.
I've led engineering, and then led HR, in the same fast-growing company. I've been an interim VP of Engineering, Head of Business Agility, creative director at the Software Testing Club (now Ministry of Testing), and a consultant and teacher across energy, payments, telco, the public sector and scale-ups, with a background in journalism and film. I write, make films and podcasts, and run workshops and talks. The titles changed. The job stayed the same.

How it starts
- A 20-minute call. No prep, no pitch. We talk about what you'd like to make of it.
- We find the right kind of work, and the right size for it.
- If it isn't a fit, I'll say so, and point you somewhere better.
It's just me, a practice rather than a firm, so I take on a handful of engagements at a time. Contracts are short, plain-English and cancellable. Nothing about your organisation appears anywhere without your permission. Not ready yet? A talk is a good way for a room to see the work first.
Start a conversation
What could you make of it?
Twenty minutes to talk about what you're working on, where you'd like to be, and whether I can help. No pitch, no pressure. If the fit is right, we'll find the right way in. If it isn't, I'll say so.
For whoever holds the budget: Rob Lambert is an independent adviser and thinking partner. He helps leaders, teams and businesses see what's possible, develop the capability to get there, and turn ideas into results, through work on what's possible, workshops and development programmes, and hands-on help while the work moves. He has been VP of Engineering and VP of HR, so the work covers both results and keeping good people. Contracts are short and cancellable; the first step is a 20-minute call.
